Visa® Debit Card FAQs

To get a Visa® Debit Card, am I required to have a People First Checking Account?

No. You must have the funds available in a People First savings/checking account to cover purchases or withdrawals.

What are the daily limits?

For your protection, the daily limit per business day for purchases is $1,000 for a Visa® Debit Card. There is a $500 daily limit for withdrawals at an ATM. The aggregate daily limit for the number of transactions permitted with a Visa® Debit Card is 20.

What if I have a purchase that exceeds my daily limit?

Depending on the dollar amount, we will want a written request to increase your limit. Please call our Member Service Center for further information.

Are there any fees for ATM transactions?

Is my Visa® Debit Card a Credit Card?

No. The card does have the Visa® logo on it and is accepted anywhere that accepts Visa®, but it is not a credit card. It is a debit card. You must have the funds available in your People First checking account to cover your purchases or withdrawals.

What is a Point of Sale (POS) purchase?

Any transaction performed by using your PIN with a Visa® Debit Card.

How long will it take to receive my Visa® Debit Card in the mail?

You will receive your Visa® Debit Card in about 7 to 14 business days after the date the card was ordered.

May I select my Personal Identification Number (PIN)?

You may activate and select your PIN when you receive your Visa® Debit Card by calling 844.316.1960 from your primary phone number.

How can I change my PIN?

You may change your PIN by calling 844.316.1960 from your primary phone number.

What should I do if my Visa® Debit Card is lost or stolen?

Call our Member Service Center immediately. If your card is lost or stolen after our business hours or on a weekend please leave us a voice message and it will be taken care of on the next business day. You will not be held responsible for any unauthorized purchase(s) made after the time of your phone message. If you have PC Access you can place a lost or stolen status on your card immediately.

I made a purchase with my Visa® Debit Card yesterday. Why hasn't the transaction cleared my account yet?

The delay in posting Visa® Debit Card transactions depends upon how often the merchant processes their credit card transactions. People First has no control over how quickly these items post. A hold is placed on your account for the amount of the purchase when the merchant swipes your card and the transaction itself will usually post within 3-5 days depending on when the merchant processes it. Once it posts you will be able to see the description of the purchase on PC Access or on your statement.

What is the difference between Total Balance and Available Balance?

Total Balance is the amount currently in the account. Available balance is the balance less all holds. Holds can include Visa® Debit Card transactions, checks that are pending, and some deposited items.
